Beer marketing can be a lot of fun. Customers of this product category are ready and eager to participate in social contests, especially when invited to play with branded content assets. Beer and cider drinkers are often loyal and their drink preference is long standing. In this contest the brand invited fans to submit design ideas for the sleeve of a limited-edition beer can. The contest ran as a Facebook App in a custom tab and promoted on the main Facebook page. Fans could browse a gallery of submitted designs, and create and submit their own designs using an interactive editor in the App. The Editor was limited to using the brand’s colour scheme, branded visual elements and several drawing tools, zooming and other features. Overall it did a good job but due to the limited design elements to play with many of the submissions looked very similar.
