The wine industry is starting to really leverage social media well. For example, one Winery is using a hashtag inviting wine lovers to post toasting photos on Instagram. People can also participate by uploading a photo on the contest site. Instagram contests are great for wine brands as the audience is more affluent on the network and the app is focused on sharing high-quality photos, which is perfect for promoting wine.
In the future we can expect many more elaborate social media contests in this category.
Another idea is to invite wine lovers to play with wine stains in a contest setting. Imagine inviting visitors to draw in a wine stain and submit their original drawings as contest entries. A gallery of artworks will be very interesting to see and will naturally be shared as participants will be eager to show off their drawings. These types of art-contests will be more prevalent in the next few years.
